Academic & Career Planning

Academic & Career Planning (ACP) is a student driven, adult supported process in which students create and cultivate their own unique and information-based visions for post secondary success, obtained through self-exploration, career exploration, and the development of career management and planning skills” (Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, PI-26). The High School ACP team consists of teachers, counselors, and administrators who have been developing this program for the past two years.

We will use a monthly ACP Advisory Period to help us create the space for this important initiative. Our goals for the advisory period are:

  1. To create meaningful and supportive relationships between students and adults.
  2. For students to learn and obtain the ability to adapt to opportunities and challenges brought forth in future planning.
  3. To support all students on their personalized journeys to successful lives.

During the 30 minute advisory, teachers will meet with the same small group of students and provide time and guidance with the goal of creating individualized plans for high school and beyond. We will be utilizing the Wisconsin Career Cruising Website for this process. Students will have their own electronic portfolio, and they will receive guidance in this program during the advisory period. Occasionally, students will be required to do some work on their own outside of advisory periods. Parents can also have access to their child’s Career Cruising portfolio. Our goal is for parents and students to work together and with the teacher-advisor on future course selections, college hunting, post high school work experiences, and much, much more!

Sincerely,

The MGHS ACP Team
